5 signs you are ready for a career change
There comes a point in everyone’s career when they may wonder whether it’s time for a change. This isn’t a feeling that develops overnight. It could have been bugging you for several weeks or even months.
Importantly, it’s not something that you should ignore. This could have a detrimental impact on your career record and might mean missing out on opportunities to progress.
So, rather than fester, monitor how you are feeling about your work life and take appropriate steps to keep your career on track.
Here’s a few warning signs that you are ready for a career change:
You clock watch
If all the passion you once had for your job seems to have vanished and you can’t wait to clock off each day, then something is up. It’s understandable to look forward to the weekend and a well deserved rest. But when you are counting down the minutes to your lunch break and the end of each and every day, then this job might not be for you.
You’re not challenged
Feeling challenged in your job can be a great motivator. However, when you have nothing to strive for this can leave you feeling deflated and damage your productivity. If you thrive under pressure and deadlines, but find your workload has no purpose then it’s time to consider a change of direction.
You have no work-life balance
Some jobs require a high level of commitment. But if it is eating into your home and social life then it is not sustainable and could even affect your health. If you have raised this issue with your manager but there’s no solution to be found, then it’s time to move on.
You’re chasing a non-existent promotion
If you have climbed as high as you can within your current organisation and there’s either no logical next step or a will to help you progress, then now is the time to start looking for a new role.
You don’t feel appreciated
If you are a self-starter who is adding value to your business but feel you are not getting anything in return – whether that’s financially, through training or progression – then a career change could be in order.
If any of these signs sounds familiar, then you know what to do next.
